Charring explores the human relationship with currency. Indigo dye was once used as a currency to purchase enslaved individuals. Coin-shaped chocolate is a fun holiday gift inspired by St. Nicholas Day. The connection between these prompted me to think about how society relies heavily on currency; How it could be treated as a piece of coin on the street that no one notices, yet also as a crucial manner to survive and have a comfortable life. By creating a coin the size of a human head, I associate the embodiment of the currency in our everyday lives.
